Artist StatementThe use of found and recycled objects signifies the
transformation of history; a past-life experience transformed through
the use of the recycled object to create a current portrait. Each
is an abstraction, and tells a story. In my earlier work, the
found/recycled object itself initiated the past/present dialogue. Later
work incorporated the found/recycled objects within the context of
a narrative theme, part of a developing personal visual history which
is the compelling focus of my art. Layering materials allows a ‘time-line’ texturing to infuse the work, producing a multi-dimensional window to the past/present through the blurred lens of time and decay. Adding words, numbers, phrases and equations echoes attempts to articulate the visual dialogue. Each piece is recognition of the way in which we all recycle our past into images of an ambiguous present.
