BiographySissi Siska, a Fashion Institute of Technology graduate, has been a designer, painter and instructor for the past twenty years. Her innovative work and technique are prominently featured in Susan L. Moyer’s book, “Silk Painting: The Artist’s Guide to Gutta & Wax Resist Techniques”, which is considered the “Bible” of silk painting. Sissi’s large-scale fine art works are in Corporate and private collections in both the US and Japan. Recent shows include: AIR Gallery, NYC, National Arboretum, Washington DC; “Silk Road Revisited, Painted Silk as Art” and “Between Skies” in Hoboken, NJ and St. John’s Chapel, Newark, NJ. Her hand painted couture fabrics have appeared on the runways of Perry Ellis, Marc Jacobs, Isaac Marathi, and Randolph Duke. Sissi’s impressive client list includes Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Katayone Adeli, Waverly Schumacher, Speedo, Cannon, Pier One, Godiva Chocolatier, Swatch Watch and Hallmark. Her theatrical credits include: Disney’s ice show based on the “Lion King”; simulated “fur” fabric creations. Nutcracker (Minnesota Ballet), chiffon layer skirts Broadway’s “Aida”, (washer women sarongs). TV spots include: MTV’s House of Style; News 12 New Jersey; Japanese Video, “Women in Art”. Publication credits include: in Vogue, Mademoiselle, WWD, Cosmopolitan, NY Times, Surface Design Journal, Fiber Arts Magazine, etc. Awards include: Tommy Award (garment center “Oscar”); Guild American Crafts Award, “Artist in Residence” at Artpark (3 times, an exclusive distinction); Hart Award (distinguished local artist award). Teaching credits: Penland School of Crafts, Newark Museum, Rochester Institute of Technology, Wild Fiber, New Jersey Center for Visual Arts, Brookfield Craft Center, Artpark, School of Visual Arts, Peter’s Valley and private workshops. |
